About Edie

Edie Carneiro

Born and raised in Miami, Edie Carneiro is a junior at Miami Palmetto Senior High who has channeled her passion for the environment into multiple trips and projects. While still in middle school, she partnered with school administration to conceptualize and build a greenhouse and butterfly garden that eventually participated in a national butterfly tagging initiative. Since then, she has spent her summers doing research and community service within environmental conservation through trips to the British Virgin Islands and Florida Keys. She has studied the impact of seaweed on sustainable farming, tagged sea turtles in the BVI, surveyed native fish in the Keys, planted mangroves on Florida’s coast, and lived on a sailboat for 17 days as part of an eco-service program. This past summer, she spent five weeks studying marine biology and genetic engineering at Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. She is a member of Palmetto’s Science National Honor Society and a member of the School Senate Environmental Outreach board. Edie is a certified CLEO Climate Speaker through The CLEO Institute Climate Leadership and Information Program (CLIP).
